Myths and legends in
literature are excellent ways to catch reader’s attention, the harmony of the
words developed by authors and writers, most of time make readers want to have
more of the piece of literature they are reading. Arachne is a legend which we
personally loved from the very beginning to the end. The way the story is said
and how the characters are described, it gave us a clear picture on our minds of
how the girl and the other characters involved looked like. Most time we felt
identified with the strong personality of the girl and her attitudes toward her
amazing, incomparable skills as sometimes we humans are.
We think that the way
the story was developed was simple but clear and gave us fair enough details to
understand some elements of literature as the presentation, setting,
foreshadowing and the most important, the conflict and the climax. It was
extremely interesting how a simple maiden challenged the skill of a Greek
goddess. However, we think that the story has a lot of difficult vocabulary, if
it has to be read by children. The vocabulary seems somewhat antique and
complex even for adults.
On the other hand, we
feel that the story brings a great message to the reader at the end, because it
sets some qualities that a person, even a good skilled one should have, like
humility, but in our opinion, Arachne should return back to her normal way,
demonstrating that for goddess Athene is ok giving second chances to others.
For example we consider that Arachne could give Athene an apologize for her
words and attitude and become a girl again.
Thus, Arachne has a
complex vocabulary and a sad end; we cannot deny the great set of the story
from the beginning to the end. The elements of literature and the stunning
message that provides and the imaginative development
of their deeds grabbed our attention
and enthusiasm through the whole story.
Sincerely yours.

Short Story
Sushi and the clever bunny
This was once, a little clever girl named Sushi, who
was very talkative and inquisitive that no one of her friends could stand her
for more than three minutes, because she was always asking about everything,
but Sushi was too stubborn to accept that fact. As she had no friends to trust
or to play with, Sushi liked to go to
the forest every morning to see the animals and every living thing there was,
because Sushi thought that as animals could not talk, they would not get
annoyed with her comments.
One morning, Sushi was sad, sitting on a rock at the edge of a river in
the forest, watching the fish passing by; when sudden a little pink creature came
out from the grass, it was a bunny. The animal was quite small but it could
jump very high and it had big ears, a pinky noise and a very fluffy tail. Sushi
thought that it was very cute and funny and decided to take it home, but when
she was about to pick it up, for her surprise the little bunny spoke, leaving
out these words “I don’t think that's a
good idea to take me with you, I suggest
you to leave me here and come to visit me as
much as you want” to what the stunned girl responded
“Unbelievable that a fool bunny is talking to me, I must be out of my mind now”
and the bunny said “No, you are not, I can talk because I am a clever bunny, there
is no other like me in the world, but I only talk what is necessary and when is
necessary”. Sushi was really surprised and delighted with the bunny who also told her that he was not allowed to talk much
otherwise he will lose his power and become a simple bunny.
Sushi understood that she must be quieter if
she wanted to have the talkative bunny for a while, but in an instant she had
forgotten about the warning the bunny made and she surrounded him with a lot of
silly questions, which the bunny had to answer, because he always answered
questions. “You should remember that I cannot talk that much dear” the bunny
reminded Sushi, but as she was excited she told him “Don’t worry, a few more
questions will not harm
anyone” and she kept the questions, as the bunny always answered questions, he continued too.
After a while talking, the bunny became to feel tired and his throat began to swell. The bunny told sushi that he had to stop talking and that she had to stop doing questions, because the bunny always answered questions, but Sushi did not listen to what he said and she continued.
After a while talking, the bunny became to feel tired and his throat began to swell. The bunny told sushi that he had to stop talking and that she had to stop doing questions, because the bunny always answered questions, but Sushi did not listen to what he said and she continued.
The bunny’s tongue became purple and
swelled; and when Sushi finally had a good question to ask, that was “how can I
stop talking too much and stop asking people about everything?” the clever
bunny wanted to answer, but was too late. The bunny had lost his power of
talking, he moved his mouth, but from his throat nothing came. Now Sushi was
sad because she had nobody to talk to again. She felt guilty because, she knew
it was her fault that the poor bunny was voiceless, but then the bunny started
to write in the sand, “I’ll get my power back when you answer yourself to your
question” because for the bunny, questions should always be answered. And Sushi
started thinking, which would be the answer for her question.
Finally Sushi
understood that the only one way for her to stop talking and asking was
observing more, listen more and talk less and suddenly then the bunny could
talk again, telling Sushi this last words “You finally understood, talk less,
listen more, otherwise you won’t be able to hear others’ answers”, and
Sushi went home cheerful, promising the bunny she will follow his advice.

But Belinda was focused on the event that had been filling her with exciment the whole week, the returning of Melissa from the city, Melissa was her nephew but they were like sisters. Belinda was thinking if Melissa was the same or if had the city changed her; she was now finishied wit her teacher's training in the East and would be spending a few weeks at the farm before continuing on to her home in the west. Belinda glanced down at her soiled dress, she hated to leave Luck with the cleaning, but she did need a bath to freshen up to wait for the arrival of Melissa at the train station. Meanwhile Luke was practicing a surgery to Jamie to try to save the fingers.
All the family was going to go to receive Melissa at the station. Mahatma Ghandi... an altruist person
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, India. He became one of the most
respected spiritual and political leaders of the 1900's. GandhiJi helped
free the Indian people from British rule through nonviolent resistance,
and is honored by Indians as the father of the Indian Nation.
The Indian people called Gandhiji
'Mahatma', meaning Great Soul. At the age of 13 Gandhi married Kasturba, a
girl the same age. Their parents arranged the marriage. The Gandhis had
four children. Gandhi studied law in London and returned to India in 1891
to practice. In 1893 he took on a one-year contract to do legal work in
South Africa.
At the time the British controlled South
Africa. When he attempted to claim his rights as a British subject he was
abused, and soon saw that all Indians suffered similar treatment. Gandhi
stayed in South Africa for 21 years working to secure rights for Indian
people.
He developed a method of action based
upon the principles of courage, nonviolence and truth called Satyagraha.
He believed that the way people behave is more important than what they
achieve. Satyagraha promoted nonviolence and civil disobedience as the
most appropriate methods for obtaining political and social goals. In 1915
Gandhi returned to India. Within 15 years he became the leader of the
Indian nationalist movement.
Using the principles of Satyagraha he
led the campaign for Indian independence from Britain. Gandhi was
arrested many times by the British for his activities in South Africa
and India. He believed it was honorable to go to jail for a just cause.
Altogether he spent seven years in prison for his political activities.
More than once Gandhi used fasting to
impress upon others the need to be nonviolent. India was granted
independence in 1947, and partitioned into India and Pakistan. Rioting
between Hindus and Muslims followed. Gandhi had been an advocate for a
united India where Hindus and Muslims lived together in peace.
On January 13, 1948, at the age of 78,
he began a fast with the purpose of stopping the bloodshed. After 5 days
the opposing leaders pledged to stop the fighting and Gandhi broke his
fast. Twelve days later a Hindu fanatic, Nathuram Godse who opposed his
program of tolerance for all creeds and religion assassinated him.
